OPTIGEL‑WX Equivalent Water‑Activated Montmorillonite, CAS 68953‑58‑2, is refined natural montmorillonite with special surface treatment, serving as high‑performance inorganic rheology substitute for OPTIGEL‑WX. This rheology‑modifying powder is optimized for architectural interior and exterior latex paint formulations. Different from solvent‑grade organophilic bentonite, this water‑activated montmorillonite develops rheological property via hydration‑driven exfoliation in water phase, without additional polar activator. Exfoliated silicate platelets construct a reversible three‑dimensional colloidal thixotropic network inside latex‑water matrix. Under static storage, the network holds titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate and other mineral extenders in stable suspension and suppresses hard sediment cake. During roller coating or brushing, mechanical shear disrupts the colloidal network, lowering paint viscosity and enabling good flow‑out and leveling of wet paint film. Once construction is finished, the thixotropic network rebuilds quickly and effectively resists sagging and runs on vertical wall substrates. This inorganic clay shows excellent compatibility with various acrylic and styrene‑acrylic latex emulsions as well as common coating additives. It exerts only minor adverse effects on scrub resistance, matte finish and colour‑developing performance of cured paint film.
