JSY‑RD synthetic hectorite, also called lithium magnesium silicate, is artificial synthetic trioctahedral smectite layered silicate. Its crystal consists of two silica tetrahedral sheets sandwiching one magnesia octahedral sheet with partial magnesium ions replaced by lithium ions. The raw material appears as free‑flowing white powder, composed of nano‑scale irregular platelet particles.

When dispersed into deionized water, platelets hydrate and swell rapidly. Electrostatic interaction between platelet surfaces and edges forms house‑of‑cards three‑dimensional network. This special microstructure brings strong thickening, thixotropy and suspension property without introducing haze to transparent aqueous systems.

Recommended Usage

Pre‑gel method is the preferred operation. Slowly sprinkle JSY‑RD powder into deionized water under high‑speed stirring at 800‑1500 rpm. Prepare pre‑gel at solid content of 2‑5%. Keep stirring for 20‑30 minutes until fully dispersed. Allow hydration for more than 4 hours at room temperature, or shorten hydration time to 5‑10 minutes under 50℃ warm water. Add finished transparent pre‑gel into ink or paint production system in follow‑up steps.

Direct addition method is optional. Disperse dry JSY‑RD powder into water under high‑shear condition before adding other formula raw materials. Proceed with remaining ingredients after complete hydration.

Typical dosage ranges from 0.1%‑3.0% by total formulation weight. Exact addition amount should be confirmed by lab tests according to target viscosity, suspension requirement and system characteristics.

This product adapts to pH environment between 5.5‑13. Avoid applying in strong acidic system below pH 5. Do not mix directly with strong cationic substances. It can compound with organic thickeners to realize synergistic thickening effect.
