CLAYTONE‑HT Equivalent Organophilic Bentonite CAS 68953‑58‑2 Rheology Additive for Epoxy Zinc‑Rich Primer Marine Anti‑Corrosive Coating

CLAYTONE‑HT Equivalent Organophilic Bentonite (CAS 68953‑58‑2) is surface‑modified organophilic bentonite powder developed as direct alternative to CLAYTONE‑HT, specially engineered for high‑zinc‑loaded epoxy zinc‑rich primer and marine heavy‑duty anti‑corrosive coatings. With proper polar activator and intensive high‑shear grinding and dispersion, silicate platelets exfoliate to build a reversible three‑dimensional thixotropic gel network inside epoxy‑solvent resin matrix. Product Overview

CLAYTONE‑HT Equivalent Organophilic Bentonite, CAS 68953‑58‑2, is produced from purified natural montmorillonite modified by quaternary ammonium salt, serving as premium rheology substitute for CLAYTONE‑HT. This organoclay rheology modifier is optimized for heavily filled epoxy zinc‑rich primers and marine heavy‑duty anti‑corrosive coatings for offshore and marine steel constructions. This grade requires suitable polar activator combined with intensive high‑shear dispersion during pigment grinding to achieve full exfoliation of silicate platelets within solvent‑containing epoxy systems. Exfoliated silicate sheets form a reversible three‑dimensional colloidal thixotropic network in epoxy‑resin‑solvent medium. At static storage, the rigid colloidal network suspends high‑density metallic zinc powder efficiently, delaying sedimentation and avoiding stubborn hard zinc sediment cake at the bottom of paint drums. During airless spraying for ship hulls, offshore jackets and large steel structural members, mechanical shear disrupts the thixotropic network and reduces primer viscosity, delivering favourable atomization, substrate wetting and spray‑ability. Once spraying is finished, the thixotropic gel network recovers rapidly, providing powerful anti‑sag property and preventing heavy zinc‑loaded wet coating from sagging or dripping on vertical steel panels. This organophilic bentonite exhibits good compatibility with standard bisphenol‑A epoxy resins and matched polyamide curing agents, and will not negatively impair the sacrificial anti‑corrosion protection mechanism of zinc‑rich primer. Stable batch‑to‑batch quality guarantees consistent rheological performance for mass‑production of marine and heavy‑duty anti‑corrosive protective coatings.

Key Features

‑ Organophilic bentonite, functional equivalent to CLAYTONE‑HT for epoxy zinc‑rich primer and marine anti‑corrosive coating ‑ Needs matched polar activator plus intensive high‑shear grinding dispersion to realize complete silicate‑platelet exfoliation ‑ Excellent anti‑settling performance for high‑density metallic zinc powder during storage of zinc‑rich primer ‑ Superior anti‑sag capacity permits thick‑film spray application on vertical steel surfaces for marine anti‑corrosion projects ‑ Typical shear‑thinning thixotropic characteristic, balancing storage suspension stability and airless‑spray atomization performance ‑ Good compatibility with bisphenol‑A epoxy resin and polyamide curing systems, no adverse influence on sacrificial anti‑corrosion protection of zinc‑rich primer ‑ Fine free‑flowing light off‑white powder, convenient feeding during heavy‑duty anti‑corrosive paint grinding production ‑ Consistent rheological performance batch‑to‑batch for marine coating and heavy‑duty steel anti‑corrosive primer manufacturing

Technical Specifications

‑ Product Name: CLAYTONE‑HT Equivalent Organophilic Bentonite ‑ CAS Number: 68953‑58‑2 ‑ Appearance: Light off‑white fine powder ‑ Moisture: ≤3.5 % ‑ Loss on ignition: 33.0‑41.0 % ‑ Fineness (325 mesh residue): ≤2.0 % ‑ Bulk density: 0.23‑0.34 g/cm³

Application Scenarios

‑ Solvent‑based epoxy zinc‑rich primer for ship hull and marine equipment ‑ Anti‑corrosive primer for offshore platform steel structures ‑ Heavy‑duty steel‑bridge anti‑corrosion zinc‑rich coating formulations ‑ High‑filler heavy‑build industrial protective coatings requiring anti‑sag and anti‑settling control ‑ Rheology‑modifying organoclay additive for marine heavy‑duty anti‑corrosive paint production

Usage Recommendation

‑ Typical dosage range: 0.5‑1.8 % based on total paint formulation weight ‑ Add organophilic bentonite powder in the pigment grinding phase together with required polar activator, perform sufficient high‑shear dispersion prior to introducing epoxy base resin ‑ Sufficient exfoliation via high‑shear grinding and correct activator dosage are critical; poor dispersion will cause severe zinc powder sedimentation and loss of anti‑sag property ‑ Complete laboratory formulation evaluation including storage sediment test, anti‑sag test, spray performance and final cured anti‑corrosion performance before formal mass‑scale paint production ‑ Avoid excessive addition; over‑dosage leads to overly high primer viscosity and deteriorates airless spraying atomization effect

Package & Storage

‑ Standard packing: 25kg kraft paper bag with inner PE liner ‑ Store in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse; protect powder against moisture absorption and heavy compression ‑ Tightly seal opened bags to prevent moisture ingress ‑ Shelf life: 12 months under proper storage conditions

Safety Notes

‑ Avoid dust generation and inhalation during material handling; wear suitable dust mask and safety goggles. ‑ Prevent direct skin contact; chemical‑resistant gloves are required for operation. ‑ Keep away from open flame and high‑temperature heat sources. ‑ Please refer to SDS document for comprehensive guidance on handling, transportation and emergency disposal.
