CLAYTONE‑40 Equivalent Organoclay CAS 68953‑58‑2 Organo Bentonite for Aliphatic Hydrocarbon Solvent‑Based Industrial Paint

CLAYTONE‑40 Equivalent Organoclay (CAS 68953‑58‑2) is organophilic bentonite powder designed as direct functional alternative to CLAYTONE‑40, specially optimized for aliphatic hydrocarbon low‑polar solvent‑based industrial paint. With suitable polar activator and high‑shear dispersion, silicate platelets exfoliate and construct a reversible three‑dimensional thixotropic gel network inside low‑polar aliphatic solvent resin media. At static storage, the network restricts sedimentation of heavy‑wei

Product Overview

CLAYTONE‑40 Equivalent Organoclay, CAS 68953‑58‑2, is manufactured from purified natural montmorillonite via organic quaternary‑ammonium salt modification, serving as premium‑grade rheology replacement for CLAYTONE‑40. This organo‑modified bentonite powder is engineered for low‑polar aliphatic‑hydrocarbon solvent‑based industrial coating formulations. For this low‑polar solvent system, a matched polar activator together with intensive high‑shear dispersion is required to achieve sufficient exfoliation of silicate platelets. Exfoliated silicate sheets build a reversible three‑dimensional colloidal thixotropic network within resin‑aliphatic‑solvent matrix. While stored statically, the colloidal network holds dense mineral extenders, anticorrosive pigments and colour pigments in stable suspension, effectively avoiding compact hard sediment at the bottom of paint drums. During airless spraying and roller application on metal substrates, external mechanical shear disrupts the thixotropic gel network, lowering paint viscosity and providing desirable wet‑film flow and leveling behaviour. Once coating application stops, the thixotropic structure rebuilds quickly to suppress sagging, dripping and running on vertical and inclined metal surfaces. This organoclay exhibits good compatibility with alkyd, modified alkyd and chlorinated‑rubber resins dissolved in aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents, and imposes limited adverse influence on final coating gloss, surface hardness and weather‑resistant properties. Consistent batch‑to‑batch quality supports continuous mass‑production of aliphatic‑solvent‑based industrial machinery and equipment protective paints.

Key Features

‑ Organophilic bentonite, functional equivalent to CLAYTONE‑40 for aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent‑based industrial paint ‑ Requires matched polar activator and high‑shear dispersion to complete silicate‑platelet exfoliation in low‑polar solvent media ‑ Excellent anti‑settling capacity for heavy mineral fillers and anti‑corrosive pigments during paint storage ‑ Outstanding anti‑sag performance on vertical metal substrates for thick‑film industrial coating construction ‑ Typical shear‑thinning thixotropic property, balancing static suspension stability and wet‑film leveling during spraying or rolling ‑ Good compatibility with alkyd, modified alkyd and chlorinated rubber resin systems dissolved in aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents ‑ Fine free‑flowing light off‑white powder, convenient for feeding within solvent‑based paint grinding workshops ‑ Stable rheological consistency for large‑scale manufacturing of aliphatic‑solvent‑borne industrial protective coatings

Technical Specifications

‑ Product Name: CLAYTONE‑40 Equivalent Organoclay ‑ CAS Number: 68953‑58‑2 ‑ Appearance: Light off‑white fine powder ‑ Moisture: ≤3.5 % ‑ Loss on ignition: 33.0‑41.0 % ‑ Fineness (325 mesh residue): ≤2.0 % ‑ Bulk density: 0.23‑0.34 g/cm³

Application Scenarios

‑ Aliphatic‑solvent‑based alkyd machinery and equipment industrial topcoats ‑ Modified‑alkyd heavy‑duty equipment protective coatings ‑ Chlorinated‑rubber anti‑corrosive paints formulated with aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents ‑ Thick‑film solvent‑borne industrial primers requiring pigment anti‑settling control ‑ Rheology‑modifying organoclay additive for low‑polar solvent‑based industrial paint production

Usage Recommendation

‑ Typical dosage range: 0.4‑1.6 % calculated on total paint formulation weight ‑ Add organoclay powder at pigment grinding stage into aliphatic solvent together with proper polar activator, run high‑shear dispersion before introducing main resin ‑ Sufficient high‑shear mixing and correct activator loading are critical to develop target thixotropy; inadequate exfoliation will cause pigment sedimentation and poor anti‑sag results ‑ Conduct complete laboratory pre‑testing covering viscosity, storage stability, anti‑sag, leveling and final film performance prior to mass‑scale paint manufacturing ‑ Avoid over‑dosage; excessive addition will raise system viscosity sharply and deteriorate spraying and wet‑film leveling properties

Package & Storage

‑ Standard packing: 25kg kraft paper bag with inner PE liner ‑ Store in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse, protect powder from moisture absorption and heavy compression ‑ Tightly seal opened bags to prevent moisture ingress ‑ Shelf life: 12 months under recommended storage conditions

Safety Notes

‑ Avoid dust generation and inhalation during material handling; wear suitable dust mask and safety goggles. ‑ Prevent direct skin contact; chemical‑resistant protective gloves are required for operation. ‑ Keep away from open flame and high‑temperature heat sources. ‑ Please refer to SDS document for comprehensive guidance on handling, transportation and emergency disposal.
