JSYA-CUPT CuPT Biocide is a finely powdered copper complex of pyrithione, registered under CAS 14915-37-8, supplied as a functional booster biocide for two connected coating markets: marine ship antifouling paint and exterior outdoor coating. As a secondary active in copper-based antifouling paints, it widens the biocidal spectrum of conventional cuprous oxide formulations. While cuprous oxide mainly targets hard-shelled fouling, copper pyrithione focuses on soft fouling pressure such as green a
The active CuPT molecule combines a copper center with two pyrithione ligands. When exposed to seawater or humid air on the coating surface, controlled partial release of copper ions and pyrithione ligands takes place at the film-water interface. Pyrithione functions as an ionophore, carrying copper across cell membranes into fouling organisms; the accumulated copper then interferes with metal-dependent enzymes, respiratory metabolism and redox balance, producing oxidative stress that stops organism attachment and reproduction. For outdoor coatings, copper-pyrithione residues stay locked inside the paint film and become active only against fungi contacting the cured surface, preserving film appearance over repeated wet-dry weather cycles.
JSYA-CUPT is a yellow-brown to olive green fine powder with particle sizes adapted for paint dispersion. It can be incorporated during the grinding stage of solvent-based marine paints, SPC self-polishing binders, epoxy or polyurethane outdoor topcoats, as well as water-based exterior coating systems formulated for dry-film protection. The powder shows good thermal and UV stability during production and outdoor exposure, without rapid photodegradation. It is normally used at a fraction of total biocide loading alongside cuprous oxide, zinc-based fungicides or other approved booster actives. Storage requirements include cool, dry, shaded conditions, sealed drums, separation from strong oxidizers, and avoidance of direct contact with unsuitable metal packaging.

Typical applications:
JSYA-CUPT copper pyrithione gives paint formulators a flexible, proven active that strengthens marine antifouling performance while solving outdoor mold and mildew preservation in one chemistry. Marine coating producers use it to extend antifouling service intervals and keep hull surfaces free of soft fouling, while architectural coating manufacturers rely on it to maintain clean, stain-free exterior films under demanding weather exposure. Proper formulation, compatible packaging and compliant dosing allow customers to build stable, high-performance antifouling and exterior protective coatings for global markets.
