JSYA-CUPT Copper Pyrithione Antimicrobial (CuPT) is a solid copper complex of pyrithione, chemical name bis(1-hydroxy-1H-pyridine-2-thionato-O,S)copper, CAS 14915-37-8. It is a broad-spectrum booster biocide widely incorporated into marine antifouling coatings and outdoor protective coatings. In seawater and humid outdoor conditions, copper ions and the pyrithione ligand are released in a controlled synergistic manner, disrupting cellular metabolism, mitochondrial function and oxidative balance
JSYA-CUPT is a yellow-brown to olive green fine powder. It disperses well in solvent-based and water-based coating systems, retaining stable biocidal activity after film formation. The pyrithione group acts as a carrier that transports copper across cell membranes, raising intracellular copper concentration and triggering cytotoxic oxidative stress, which inhibits both marine fouling organisms and fungi. CuPT shows good weather resistance, water resistance and film stability, and is commonly combined with copper-based or other booster biocides in high-performance antifouling formulations. It should be stored in a cool, dry, shaded and sealed condition, kept away from strong oxidizers and incompatible metal contact.
Main advantages:
Typical applications:
JSYA-CUPT copper pyrithione is a reliable multifunctional biocide for marine and outdoor coating manufacturers. It helps reduce marine growth settlement on antifouling surfaces, lowers hull drag and maintenance frequency, and keeps exterior coating films free from mold spots and fungal deterioration under long-term sun, rain and humidity exposure.
