Organo Bentonite SD‑3, CAS 68953‑58‑2, is processed from purified natural bentonite through organic quaternary‑ammonium salt surface modification. This universal self‑activating grade is developed for general industrial solvent‑based coating systems with broad polarity tolerance ranging from low‑polar to medium‑high‑polar resin‑solvent combinations. Thanks to specially optimized surface treatment, SD‑3 achieves sufficient exfoliation under high‑shear dispersion without the addition of separate polar activator. Exfoliated clay platelets reconstruct a reversible thixotropic colloidal network. While at static storage, the network inhibits pigment and filler sedimentation and resists the formation of compact hard sediment cake. During spraying and brushing, mechanical shear disrupts the gel network, lowering system viscosity to realize favorable wet‑film leveling.
