Product Overview

This PMMA light diffusing agent is a cross-linked polymethyl methacrylate spherical micro-powder, a cost-effective light diffusion and anti-glare additive for transparent plastics and optical coatings. It realizes uniform light diffusion and soft light effect through the refractive index difference between microspheres and base materials, with 20%-30% lower cost than silicone light diffusers, making it the first choice for mass-produced light diffusion products with cost control requirements.

*Important Note: This product is NOT suitable for pure PMMA (acrylic) substrate, as the refractive index of PMMA microspheres is almost the same as PMMA substrate, which cannot produce effective light scattering.

The unit cost is 20%-30% lower than silicone light diffusers, and the addition amount is lower under the same haze requirement, which can effectively reduce raw material costs for mass production of light diffusion parts.
High transmittance with low light loss
With a refractive index of 1.49, it forms a proper refractive index difference with PC, PS and other substrates, with light loss controlled below 3%, and light transmittance 5%-8% higher than ordinary light diffusers at the same haze, which is suitable for high-brightness LED products with high light output requirements.
Excellent dispersion without agglomeration
Regular spherical structure with special surface modification, it has good wettability in PC/PS melt, coating resin and ink, easy to disperse without agglomeration, no crystal points, white spots or fish eyes on the surface of finished products, reducing defective rate.
Stable processing performance
Heat resistance up to 250℃, can withstand short-term high temperature of 300℃ during PC processing, no decomposition, no yellowing, no black spots during injection, extrusion and coating process, and will not reduce the physical properties of the base material.
Multiple particle size options
We provide full range of particle size models from 1.5μm to 8μm, which can be selected according to different requirements of light guide plate, lampshade, coating, matting and other scenarios, to meet differentiated haze, transmittance and hand feel requirements.

Typical Performance

The product appears as pure white regular spherical powder with no obvious agglomeration, refractive index 1.49 at 25℃, whiteness over 96, volatile matter below 0.5% after 2 hours at 105℃, and strictly controlled coarse particle content. All models meet industrial optical grade requirements, comply with EU RoHS and REACH environmental protection standards, and can be used for export lighting, display and coating products.

Recommended Applications

Plastic modification: Light diffusion modification of PC, PS, AS transparent substrates, including LED lampshades, light diffusion plates, LED tubes, transparent profiles, suitable for injection molding and extrusion processes.
Optical parts: LED light guide plates, display backlight diffusion films, panel light diffusers, suitable for high-uniformity optical parts with zero crystal point requirements.
Coating & ink: Anti-glare (AG) hard coating for display and touch screen, matte coating, soft touch paint, leather finishing, ink matting additive, to achieve uniform matte and anti-glare effect.
Other applications: Cosmetic skin feel improver, plastic film anti-blocking agent, resin art matting additive.

Usage Guidelines

For PC/PS plastic modification, the recommended addition rate is 0.3%-1.5%, adjusted according to product wall thickness and required haze: 0.3%-0.8% for thick-walled high-transmittance products, 0.8%-1.2% for conventional products, 1.2%-1.5% for thin-walled high-haze products. It can be directly mixed with resin pellets for processing, or pre-made into 5% concentration masterbatch for more uniform dispersion. Processing temperature follows conventional PC/PS parameters, no special adjustment required.

For LED light guide plate application, select 2-3μm small particle size model, recommended addition rate is 0.2%-0.8%, masterbatch adding is recommended to avoid crystal points caused by poor dispersion.

For coating and ink application, select matching particle size according to required matte effect, recommended addition rate is 3%-10%, disperse at high speed after adding, avoid sand grinding to prevent damage to spherical structure affecting effect.

Packaging & Support

The product is packed in 20kg moisture-proof kraft paper drum with sealed PE inner bag, and 1kg aluminum foil small package is available for sample testing. Store in a cool, dry and ventilated place, seal in time after opening, with a shelf life of 24 months under proper storage conditions.
